Our location this week is the gorgeous home of Dewald Prinsloo. Having
been in London for some time working in the banking industry, Dewald
returned home for a holiday and realised he had come home for good.
However, a change of careers was needed and he decided to explore his
creative side, partnering with Marc Stanes and Leonard de Villiers in
Ebony. Ebony does interior design projects, event styling and has a
gorgeous treasure trove of a decor store by the same name which stocks
only the best of South African design in everything from decor objets
and artwork, to ceramics and contemporary furniture. Dewald’s home is a
reflection of the style evident in their Franschhoek decor shop. An
eclectic mix of art and colourful objects offset by those in black and
white, and pieces collected over 20 years, the decor complements the
clean lines, open-plan spaces and modern facade of the building. It was
transformed from what Dewald refers to as ‘an ’80s monster with small
dark rooms’ into a modern and minimalist structure.

Nico got to live out every man’s dream when he was invited on set for a
dream-team FHM shoot - four of SA’s most gorgeous girls in their
lingerie. Hagen Engler, editor of FHM, wanted to recreate a famous
image shot by the late great Herb Ritts, fashion photographer to the
supermodels, with our local lasses. FHM veterans Lee-Ann Liebenberg,
Tracy McGregor, Wonderbra girl Lieschen Botes, actress and model Tanya
van Graan and the lovely Joelle Kayembe turned up the heat in a
smouldering shot. Asked whether there was any rivalry between the
girls, Hagen was quick to point out how professional they all are and
that they get along well - to the team at Top Billing, it certainly did
seem that they were having fun. Almost as much as FHM readers will have
when looking at the pics...

Nico invites two of his old colleagues from 7de Laan, Francois Lensley
(Marko) and Hendrik Cronje (Lukas) to join him for a weekend of R&R
in the picturesque Eastern Free State town of Clarens. The trio make
the most of this arty town by participating in a mosaic workshop before
dining alfresco at Clementines - once frequented by Brad Pitt! This
Golden Gate region is known for its trout, and Nico impressed his
buddies with his culinary skill (with the help of chef Granville
Paulsen). They all loved the locally brewed beer too - a great
kickstart to their afternoon spent horseriding in the Maluti Mountains.

The Woman's Show, an experiential and sensory platform, showcasing
products and services and providing networking opportunities, took
place from 25 to 27 April at the Sandton Convention Centre. The
exhibition was a celebration of women’s increasing prominence in all
sectors of South African business and life. This show is an
aknowledgement of the fact that in South Africa, women account for 87.7
percent of buying decisions and that in 82 percent of households, the
woman is the primary shopper. This staggering fact has spurred on a new
partnership between the SABC Public Commercial Services platforms,
SABC3 and METRO FM, announced just prior to the Show, with the aim ‘to
create an engaging multiple-platform experience within the context of
the Woman’s Show theme: celebrating our similarities’. SABC3
personalities and SA socialites all came together to join forces in
what is set to be a very successful lifestyle experience.

Jo-Ann Strauss spent a day with actress, businesswoman and board member
of the Gauteng Film Commission, as well as contestant in the current
Strictly Come Dancing series, Uyanda Mbuli. Clearly this dymanic and
busy woman needed time off from her busy schedule to spoil herself in
the luxury of the Sandton Sun. The Sandton Sun, which recently
underwent a R100-million refurbishment, offers a world-class experience
to its guests - with everything you could need, or desire at your beck
and call – and Jo-Ann and Uyanda were no exception. The girls got to
lap up the luxury from morning 'til night – starting with some relaxing
massage treatments at the Sandton Sun Spa. A fun shopping trip
followed, where Jo-Ann and Uyanda were accompanied by fashion designer
of label Ephymol, Ephraim Molingoana. He dispensed some extra tips to
the already stylish ladies, and helped select some gorgeous items along
the lines of Uyanda’s classically glamorous taste (and they bought some
cute pyjamas!). They returned to the Sandton Sun for a delicious lunch
served up by Executive Sous-Chef James Khoza. Later on it was time to
call Camilla Zuccarelli at the Sandton Sun for her expert help in
planning a decadent girly slumber party, complete with strawberries and
bubbly. Invited were some of South Africa’s rising female stars,
including Sasha Muller, Sayeda Kazie and Phuti Malabie. But even
serious businesswomen need a little time off - as they say, ‘girls just
want to have fun’…

Attorney Karin van de Venter and IT-guru James Guthrie seal their union
in a fairytale wedding with a unique twist. Karin's 10-piece burgundy
dress designed by Durban designer Karen Monk-Klijnstra was filled with
'masses of overkill'. The Swarovski-crystal wand (instead of flowers)
accompanied her into the stone chapel at the reception venue, The
Hertford in Johannesburg. Her love awaited her in his kilt - a tribute
to his Scottish heritage. The Celtic theme continued into the
celebration where the hexagonal cake layers were adorned with dragons
instead of the traditional bride and groom ornaments.

Recycled timber and offcuts have Aidan creating a garden bench with
adjustable and interchangeable back rests for comfortable seating any
way you choose. He was spurred on by the funky creation of designer
Lyall Sprong - a eucalyptus log that he turned into an outdoor bench.
Named the Euco Bench, it formed part of a project entitled Light Echoes
in which Lyall integrated reflections of light with furniture design,
such that parts of the furniture seem to disappear into the environment.
